Performance analysis of equalized OFDM systems in Rayleigh fading

چکیده
Channel estimation is usually needed to compensate for the amplitude and phase distortions associated with a received orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) waveform. This paper presents a systematic approach for analyzing the bit-error probability (BEP) of equalized OFDM signals in Rayleigh fading. Closed-form expressions for BEP performance of various signal constellations [phase-shift keying (PSK), differential phase-shift keying (DPSSK), quaternary phase-shift keying (QPSK)] are provided for receivers that use a linear pilot-assisted channel estimate. We also derive the optimal linear channel estimates that yield the minimum BEP and show that some previous known results are special cases of our general formulae. The results obtained here can be applied to evaluate the performance of equalized single-carrier narrowband systems as well.

Recently, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been extensively used in communications systems to resist channel impairments in frequency selective channels. OFDM is a multicarrier transmission technology in wireless environment that use a large number of orthogonal subcarriers to transmit information. OFDM is one of the most important blocks in digital video broadcast-terrestr...
متن کاملA Comparison of the Performance of Linearly Equalized Single Carrier And Coded OFDM Over Frequency Selective Fading Channels Using the Random Coding Technique
Different attempts have been taken to compare performances of coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (COFDM) and a corresponding single carrier system employing a linear equalizer often by comparing average bit error rates. In this paper, the random coding technique is used to analyze the performances of these systems for signaling over piecewise constant channels. The probabilities t...
متن کاملBit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)
In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...
متن کاملExact Error Probabilities Analysis of Arbitrary 2-D Modulation-OFDM Systems with I/Q Imbalances in Frequency-Flat Rayleigh Fading Channel
In OFDM systems, in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) imbalances generated in the analog front-end introduce interchannel interference and, consequently, error performance degradation. This paper provides an exact expression involving the twodimensional (2-D) Gaussian Q-function for the error probability of an arbitrary 2-D modulated OFDM signal with I/Q imbalances in frequency-flat Rayleigh fading ch...
